We had a very lively discussion on One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest today and I really appreciated everyone’s point of view. One point I found of interest was the comparison between Kesey’s novel and John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. The relationship between McMurphy and Chief Bromden offers one of the most appealing examples of friendship between men since Steinbeck broke readers hearts with the similarly incongruous pairing of George and Lennie in Of Mice and Men.
If you have not read Of Mice and Men give it a go. It is short (a novella really) but a must read.
