Why the long shots?

As we have discussed  most of Children of Men is shot in lengthy, sustained shots with very little cutting or close-ups. Director Alfonso Cuaron explains, “It wasn’t doing a long shot to say how clever we are. It was about honouring the moments of truthfulness.” “When we felt that we were becoming aware of the camera, then we would cut.”
