Fahrenheit 451

We discussed this novel briefly in class and I have added a little information about it.

Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian speculative fiction novel written by Ray Bradbury and first published in 1953. This novel helped dystopian fiction cross over from genre writing to mainstream American literature. Fahrenheit 451 is a gripping story which is both disturbing and poetic. Bradbury takes the materials of pulp fiction and transforms them into a visionary parable of a society gone awry. In the novel firemen burn books and the state suppresses learning while the community sits by in a drug-induced and media-saturated indifference. This novel is more relevant than ever a half-century later and it is one that many of you would appreciate.
