The Lovely Bones – Chapter 7

In this chapter Buckley and his friend Nate are playing when Buckley asks Nate if he sees Susie. Buckley says that Susie has been “gone for a while, but now she’s back”. Buckley tells Nate that the last time he saw Susie she kissed him on the cheek. Nate does not believe him, and Buckley says it is a secret.

In heaven, Susie wonders if her brother has actually seen her. Buckley repeats to Nate that he has seen her but Susie thinks Buckley is “merely a little boy telling beautiful lies”. This is a poignant chapter because it shows Susie really wants Buckley to have seen her because she can’t let her family go.
