Led Zeppelin go digital
This is for the fans.
Rock legends Led Zeppelin are to make their complete back catalogue available for digital download from next month.
The band, one of the last major acts to embrace the digital market, will now offer classic hits like Whole Lotta Love from all online music retailers.
“The addition of the digital option will better enable fans to obtain our music in whichever manner they prefer,” said guitarist Jimmy Page.
Led Zeppelin’s surviving members are to reunite in November for one night only.
Warner Music Group chairman Edgar Bronfman Jr described the band’s catalogue as a “highly anticipated and essential addition to the world’s leading digital music services”.
“We look forward to expanding Led Zeppelin’s presence across a full array of digital platforms.”
‘Anxiously awaited’
In a separate deal, US mobile network Verizon Wireless announced it would be offering Led Zeppelin’s music to its customers via ring tones, alert tones and full-song downloads.
“We are thrilled to deliver this anxiously awaited catalogue,” said Ed Ruth, its director of digital music.
Page, singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones will perform together for the first time in 19 years on 26 November at a tribute concert for late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
Tickets for the event cost £125 each but are said to be changing hands for many times that amount.
